ADOPT, FOSTER OR SPONSOR A WONDERFUL BALI DOG

If you've ever owned a Bali dog, you understand their incredible qualities.

Loyal, intelligent, and resilient, these dogs embody the spirit of Bali itself.     They bring joy and companionship like no other and have coexisted with humans for thousands of years.

With Bali Animal Care you can give one of the rescued dogs and cats a new life.

Adopting or fostering a Bali dog through Bali Animal Care is a wonderful way to make a meaningful difference in a dog's life.    Fostering provides a puppy or dog with the chance to experience a loving home, complete with care, affection, and the freedom to run around.

You can foster for as little as a month, though we recommend a minimum of three months to give the dog time to adjust and thrive.    Fostering is also a great opportunity to see if you are ready to adopt.

By adopting, you are offering a Bali dog a permanent home where it can enjoy a safe, happy life filled with love and space to play.    Adoption is a commitment, and it comes with the reward of a devoted companion and the joy of knowing you have given a dog the chance to live it's best life.    Many of our foster and adoption stories have been incredibly successful, and we hope the same bright future for the dogs listed below.

Whether you are considering fostering or adopting, you are welcome to visit our clinic and shelters to meet the dogs in person and find the perfect match for your home and heart.

Seeing their personalities up close can help you decide, and our team is here to guide you every step of the way.

For more information or to take the first step in this life-changing journey, send us a message using Facebook, Instagram or Whatsapp which you will find under this link.

Your best friend might be waiting for you!

NOT READY TO ADOPT OF FOSTER?

You can still make a difference.

Consider sponsoring a Bali dog in need.

Your support can provide a home, food, medical care, and a brighter future for these special animals.

They live very happy lives within the shelters in which they are housed however we are required to pay for their upkeep.

The shelters they are kept within are very well run, they have many doggy friends, enjoy good nutrition and any illness is attended to immediately.

This is an expense that we must bear until the dogs are rehomed and we ask that you consider sponsoring one or more or even a family sponsorship..

For AUD 50/EUR 30 per month, you will be providing them with a wonderful home, people that care about them, lots of friends and a carefree life.

Please consider sponsoring – it is so worthwhile and is a positive to the end of their rescue story.

Together, we can ensure every Bali dog gets the love they deserve.

Typically other sponsors provide AUD 50/EUR 30 per month for the care of their chosen animal.

This goes a long way to providing for their care, enrichment, and happiness in their sanctuary until they are adopted.

ANNISA

Annisa is a part Kintamani female of about 3 years old and was found together with her sibling Setia beside a busy road between Denpasar and Kintamani.     Putu and Wendy rescued both and brought them to the clinic for safety. After all necessary treatments Setia was fostered by our Dutch volunteer Pim but sadly Annisa did not find a loving home.     She is smart, a good guard dog, social, cheeky in character and now living at Pole Dog Stay.

KALI

Kali a gentle and playful female around 2 years old.     Just like all the other dogs, she needs a confident person to take her in so she feels secure in her new home.   She is very good with other dogs, social with people and an absolute sweetheart.    She also loves a good chin scratch.     She was already chosen twice by local families because of her energetic spirit and beauty but unfortunately they were unable to give her the proper care or a safe space.    So we had to take her back and are looking for someone who will give her stability, lots of love and confidence.

So grateful to Kensey for sponsoring Kali

CHOCKY

Is an older male that was found on the streets fighting for his life.    Battle scarred and skinny, he could not be handled by anyone.    He  was rescued by a dog catcher and we had him treated fully at the clinic (tumour, scars, dislocated hip and very traumatised),.   He made a remarkable recovery since he has been at Gaia Island of the Dogs.   He is a loner but finally we see him socialising with the other animals.     Unfortunately he will never be fit for adoption, and with your sponsorship we can ensure that he will happily ever after live a peaceful life at Gaia Island of the Dogs.

CODY

Cody is a stunner!    A beautiful looking male of around 2.5 years who wears his natural smoking every day.   He is the most gentle male we have, a bit shy and at the same time very playful.   He is very good with other dogs, but he cannot be with alpha male dogs, because it is too intimating for him.    We want to find him a home where he gets a lot of love, which he missed as a traumatised puppy alone on the streets of Bali.     Cody is now at Pole Dog Stay where we are seeing a great improvement in his confidence.

SAKTI (pronounced Shakti)

Sakti is our fox-coloured and brown eyed beauty of around 2.5 years old.     She might seem reserved at first, but don't be mistaken because she is mainly very calm in all kinds of circumstances.    She is a social being, friendly with other dogs, smart, curious and will definitey love you if you provide her with a good home.   Sadly, she was returned by her adopter because her landlord suddenly refused permission for her to keep an animal.    Now she lives at Pole Dog Stay, where she is awaiting a second chance.    We honestly cannot believe (just like the other dogs), that she has not been adopted yet.   We found her in the rice fields with her sister Magic, who was quickly adopted but unfortunately Sakti is still waiting for her next best friends.

SUNNY

Sunny is a very special affectionate, guarding (but not aggressive) Kintamani female about 4 years old originating from the Kintamani highlands.  The breed has the oldest DNA diversity known to man.     They are slightly removed from the Grey Asian Wolf and have DNA that is linked to the Australian Dingo.

She was rescued as a young dog with her twin brother – hairless and living on a rubbish tip.    Both were adopted by the same person and sadly Sunny ran out the gate and got lost after only one day due to carelessness.    Her twin brother was returned to the clinic by the adopter.

She went missing for 14 months and was discovered about 5 kms away – very thin but being fed by a street feeder.    It was a Christmas miracle that we found her and being able to survive what she had been through shows her smart and resilient spirit as we don't see any signs of being traumatised.    She is good alone and with other dogs.      She now lives at Gaia Island of the Dogs waiting for her next home.    Thank you to Camille for sponsoring Sunny.

SITA

Found living at a temple with 5 newborn puppies.     Some died, some were removed from her by persons unknown and we rescued 2.      She is a gentle female of a few years old and an especially beautiful dog with markings that show she is a Bali heritage dog – DNA of thousands of years.   She is a big dog and oh so gentle. She loves cuddles and we have never seen any signs of protectiveness or aggression towards human or other dogs.     We have found a temporary place for her at Gaia Island of the Dogs Sanctuary where this lovely dog can wait for her new home.

Thank you to Michiel for sponsoring Sita

FRANKIE

Frankie stole our hearts when she was found locked in a cage, totally neglected and malnourished and full of fungus, but still lively despite her circumstances.     Luckily, she was rescued at a young enough age for her bones to not be affected by being confined.    This one year old playful female has the most beautiful brown coat due to her partly pitbull blood.   She is a joy - forever playing with other dogs, curious and loves cuddles and attention.    She is waiting for a better chance at life at Gaia Island of the Dogs Sanctuary.

GRACE

Grace is a female around 3 years old.     She was found in a plastic bag on the side of the road with only her head sticking out.   She was probably put there to be picked up for the meat trade.     Luckily one of our adoptors, a Grab driver, found her and took her to the clinic.     Grace is energetic, social and quite remarkable at riding a scooter (so a real Bali dog).   She can live in a family or one-on-one, she is very easy as long as she has plenty of time and space to run around.

Important note:   She is an Anggrek dog or brindle as we call them, and they usually have the complete DNA of a Bali Heritage Dog, so it is very important that they remain on the island.  She is good friends with Sakti and Mooi who are staying with her at Pole Dog Stay in Sanur.

INDRA

Indra is one of Sita’s pups.    This gorgeous girl is around 1.5 years old and has beautiful markings like her mum, and the same gentle nature.     She is also a real Bali Heritage Dog.   Indra is calm, friendly, playful and good with people and other dogs.    She doesn't ask for attention and is really a must-see.    So come and check her out at Gaia Island of the Dogs.

JOSIE

Josie is a very resilient dog – she was found living under a house – very thin and with ruptured tendons in both front legs.    Even though nothing could be done for her legs, she recovered and adjusted by herself.    It is incredible to see her joyful spirit, her playfulness and kindness when you get to know her.    She is a good guard dog and it is best for her to be with another dog so they can play together.    She is a medium-large dog, doesn't need a lot of walks so as not to overuse her legs and she does need space to play around.   She is very cheeky and lives a good life at Gaia Island of the Dogs waiting to be adopted.

MOOI

Mooi is our pretty medium-sized female of around 2.5 years.  She was very traumatised when she was rescued together with her brother after the mum was found dead from poisoning.    Luckily gained a lot of confidence while being together with her dog friends at Pole Dog Stay in Sanur.     It took a long time for her to gain trust in humans and now she is doing great.    She is still a little reserved, very sweet, good with other dogs and would love to find a home with another dog.

JIP

Jip was found as a pup on the road outside a villa in Uluwatu and brought to us early in 2024.    After all her necessary treatments at the clinic she went to Gaia Island of Dogs where she grew into a healthy and happy pup.     She was adopted by a local family but after a month we had to take her back as she did not get the care she needed and developed bad skin issues.     Back at the sanctuary she is as joyful as before, not traumatised, very playful and not so big (small to medium sized).    She would be great for a family, and also one-on-one, and she can be alone or with other dogs.   Very versatile little dog.

JUNA

Juna, now 1.5 years old, is most probably a pup of Sita as he was found at the same place where we rescued her and his sister Kia.     Remarkably, he does not look like his mum and sister as he is totally white.   He does however, have the same gentle nature as they do.  He is still a bit shy, but playful and gained a lot of confidence at Gaia.   It would be best for him if he lived in a home with another dog..

TARA

Tara has a special story.    Wendy tracked this female for 4 hours through the streets of Denpasar - she had a broken leg, a smashed paw (all on the same side), and a misaligned jaw.    Finally we were able top capture her with the help of a dog catcher.    Now after amputating her severely injured leg she is absolutely thriving.    She is a very gentle medium-sized female.   She is smart, curious and very resilient as she has already shown.   If you look into her eyes you will fall in love with her - we promise!    She doesn't need long walks, would be best living alone with you or your family but can also be with other dogs if it is the right fit.    She is staying at Gaia Island of the Dogs Sanctuary.
